2019 ACCA Call for Programs

2019 ACCA Call for Programs

Deadline: September 7, 2018

2019 American College Counseling Association Conference
Call for Programs

Submit your proposal by September 7, 2018

The Program Committee is seeking submissions that will contribute to the professional development of college counselors spanning all levels of experience and work settings. Our mission is to select a comprehensive set of programs that provides both breadth and depth of education and training for the variety of professionals who provide mental health services on college and university campuses.

SESSION FORMATS
Sessions for the conference can be in one of three formats:

  • Breakout sessions: These 90 minute sessions can take various forms, from a single presenter or panel presentation.
  • Pre-conference session: These half or full day sessions take a very in-depth look at a specific topic.
  • Poster session: Posters will be on display throughout the conference with a specified period for authors to answer questions about their study and findings.

SESSION TOPICS;
The ACCA theme for the 2019 conference is “California Dreaming.” In keeping with our theme, we are interested in proposal topics that explore ideas of supporting dreams and goals, creating inclusivity, and finding ways to be creative in our work as we reach out and connect with others. How do we continue to grow as counselors, support our profession and provide crucial services for students? How do we stay current with student needs and find the resources to provide them? Preferred session topics for the 2019 conference:
  • Counseling Theory/Practice:  Ideal approaches to building groups, psychoeducational programming and maintaining the therapeutic relationship in a college setting.
  • Social and Cultural Foundations: Broadening our vision to promote environments of inclusivity that support diversity. Address non-academic barriers to student success.
  • Supervision/Administrative: Inspiring your staff, best practices in clinical supervision, creating internship programming, and advocating for resources.
  • Counselor Professional Identity and Practice Issues: Supporting counselors working in diverse campus settings, career advancement and professional growth.
  • Wellness and Prevention: Exploring ways to engage students in topics of mental health and wellness to help them reach their educational goals. Campus-wide mental health initiatives.
  • Community College Focus: Acknowledging the differences in community college centers while appreciating our common dreams.
  • Research and Program Evaluation: Research design methods, findings and evaluation.
