2021 American College Counseling Association Conference
Call for Programs

Submit your proposal by October 16, 2020
ACCA is excited to announce that we are seeking submissions for our 2021 conference: Navigating Challenges; Leading Our Future. Our mission is to select a comprehensive set of programs that provides both breadth and depth of education and training for the variety of professionals who provide mental health services on college and university campuses, at all levels of experience and work settings.

Sessions for the conference can be in one of two formats:
  • Breakout sessions: These 90 minute sessions can take various forms, from a single presenter or panel presentation.
  • Poster session: Posters will be on display throughout the conference with a specified period for authors to answer questions about their study and findings.

The theme for the 2021 ACCA Conference is Navigating Challenges; Leading Our Future. 2020 has been the most challenging year in recent history. From COVID-19 and the abrupt move to telehealth, the ongoing concerns regarding race relations in the United States, questions about the treatment of Black/African American individuals by police, and campuses opening and then quickly moving to remote instruction in the Fall semester, colleges and university counseling centers are being asked to address issues in novel and inventive ways. To this end, the 2021 conference theme is dedicated to highlighting the new programs and innovative ideas that college counseling centers are using to fulfill our overall mission: to help and support students. In keeping with our theme, we are interested in proposal topics that explore ideas related to the theme of the conference as well as topics that promote best practices in the field of college counseling.

Our preferred session topics for the 2021 conference are:
  • Counseling Theory/Practice:  Novel approaches to providing remote counseling services, managing crises remotely, building and maintaining groups, psychoeducational programming and maintaining the therapeutic relationship in a college setting.
  • Diversity/Inclusion/Equity: Unpacking historical oppression in education and mental health institutions to build bridges forward.
  • Clinical Supervision and Training: Best practices in clinical supervision, creating internship programming, promoting growth during supervision.
  • Administrative: Inspiring your staff, leadership development, and advocating for resources, innovations in meeting demand.
  • Counselor Professional Identity and Practice Issues: Supporting counselors working in diverse campus settings, career advancement and professional growth.
  • Wellness and Prevention: Exploring ways to engage students in topics of mental health and wellness to help them reach their educational goals. Campus-wide mental health initiatives. Counselor Self-Care, Helping Students in Quarantine, and Counselor Resiliency.
  • Community College Focus: Acknowledging the differences in community college centers while appreciating our common dreams.
