Presentation Title: A Primer on the Integrative Developmental Model of Supervision
Presenter: Stephanie Maccombs-Hunter, LPCC, LICDC, CRC - Ohio University
Date: Friday, July 21st
Time: 1pm Eastern

Presentation Description: The integrative developmental model of supervision (McNeill & Stoltenberg, 2016) is the most widely used and researched developmental model of supervision, and it can be used with supervisees across all levels of training, experience, or expertise (Bernard & Goodyear, 2014). This model views supervisee development as progressing through three overriding structures across three levels in eight domains of professional functioning (McNeill & Stoltenberg, 2016). Participants of this session will learn the three overriding structures of this model (i.e., self-other awareness, motivation, and autonomy), as well as the eight domains of professional functioning (i.e., intervention skills competence, assessment techniques, interpersonal assessment, client conceptualization, individual differences, theoretical orientation, treatment plans/goals, and professional ethics). Using these structures and domains, participants will learn how to evaluate supervisees and determine their current level of development (i.e., level 1, 2, 3, or 3i). Moreover, participants will practice the use of IDM supervision in college counseling contexts via a case study. This session is designed for new supervisors or supervisors interested in learning more about this model and is also relevant for supervisees.
Learning Objectives:
1: Learn the basic tenets of the integrative developmental model of supervision.
2: Learn how to evaluate supervisees and determine their current level of supervisee development using the IDM model.
3: Apply learned concepts via a case study involving supervision in a college counseling center.
