Navigating the Shadows: Addressing Shame in Counseling Supervision
Presenters:
Jamie Hagenbaugh is a student counseling center director, psychologist, and clinical associate professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Thomas Jefferson University. He received his undergraduate degree in communications from the State University of New York at Oswego. Dr. Hagenbaugh obtained his Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology and Human Behavior along with his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Chestnut Hill College. Prior to his work at Thomas Jefferson University, Dr. Hagenbaugh is the current co-chair of the ACCA supervision and training committee. Dr. Hagenbaugh has co-authored several articles in academic journals and has presented at regional and national conferences on student mental health and threat assessment.
Abstract:
This presentation will focus on helping supervisors to understand shame and its impact on clients and clinicians in training. Additionally, this presentation will review the origins of shame in clients. Finally, the presentation will help supervisors develop strategies to help clinicians in training manage shameful events that may occur in session
