Making sense of privacy, confidentiality, and practice in the world of COVID-19

Workshop Description/Abstract:

COVID is impacting the world in so many ways.  As mental health professionals on college campuses, we are seeing the impacts of this more and more every day.  Meanwhile, most of us have also made the immediate adjustment to providing telehealth services.  What do these changes mean for our clinical practice, our ethics, and our passion to support our students.  While legal and ethical guidelines pay attention to these matters, it does not always feel cut and dry in practical application.  This session will review the relevant standards and work to clarify both the theoretical and practical application for clinical practice in a world of telehealth and COVID-19.  

Attendees will be able to: 

• Discuss the legal and ethical codes related to privacy/confidentiality for college mental health, including FERPA, HIPAA, TITLE IX, ACA, APA, NASW and state-based laws.
• Apply these standards towards clinical practice in a pandemic world
• Analyze and revise, if needed, their clinical policies 
• Apply standards for productive and sound clinical decision making
• Utilize this knowledge to communicate and collaborate with campus stakeholders

Continuing Education:

This webinar will offer 1.5 CE Hours to all of those that finish the webinar.  Psychologist and Licensed Counselor credits will be offered.
